Studio lighting study

Recently began to study studio lighting setups within 3ds Max and V-Ray. Going off a good tut on cgtuts+, I've begun to delve deeper into fine-tuning render settings. Spending a lot of time going over different settings to improve render times without losing quality. Finding that balance is the trick, truly. For now, here is an initial render of a simple object early on in the process. Render time on a Pentium C2D with 2GB of RAM on a 1GB GDDR3 Radeon 4670 ended up being 9 minutes and 26 seconds so far. Not too bad for ancient tech by today's standards!

MSHSO Part 2: Hero items and room decor items

Greetings fellow artists,

Today we have all of the assets I produced pertaining to Hero characters and room items. Breakdown:

Scarlet Witch items: my first task on the MSHSO project.

Then came Iron Man (variant 2), Shadowcat and Psylocke items.

The following items are broken down into the dates I completed them,

so the number of assets aren't equal on each render.

Mystic room decor items

Primal room decor items

Sci-Fi (or is that SyFy? ^_^) room decor items

Steam Punk (my fav category on this project) room decor items

The rest of the items are bunches of Primal and Steam Punk items, mostly separated by when I did them. As you can tell, I was tasked with most of the Primal items. Enjoy and thanks for looking!

Here are two tire models made for recent Les Schwab Tires commercials made by the folks down at Funnelbox. My Open Country AT tire is featured prominently at the end of the commercials as the front stack of tires. Enjoy!

MSHSO - Brawler tiles [UPDATE]

Here are the level tiles I made for the MSHSO (Marvel Super Hero Squad Online) game. There are a few more to be added as soon as the game goes from beta to full release, so stay tuned! ^_-

So, I've been creating assets for the above mentioned game since starting in-house with Cinematics. The project has been incredibly fun and creative; I wish it'd last forever (and chances are it could considering it's an MMO). Can't wait to post all the work I've done on the game when it launches, it's been a fantastic experience thus far, and will only get better soon no doubt. After the initial assets wrap up after next week, I'll be the lead artist on a test to land some more work modeling/texturing levels for this very same game. If all goes well, that'll keep me busy for a while longer. I'm extremely excited about this because I've always pegged myself as an environment artist and this is exactly what I've always desired to do in games. I've been making a ton of environment props, which is part of that package deal too, so it's all been gravy so far, but this will be the icing on the cake. Looking forward to the future!

Some stuff I've done at my previous job. Mostly involves environmental and some complicated equipment modeling. As always, don't let your head explode while viewing the awesomness. Note: the house models were modeled/textured by myself but other elements weren't, including yard items and background objects.

Finally, I've joined the 'blogosphere.' Scary and new. I'm here to share my work with the world (for free) and hopefully use it to keep people up to date on, for the most part, my artwork and works-in-progress.
